This regiment, along with Colonel William Johnson's Third Regiment and Colonel Edwin Booth's Fifth Regiment, defended the lower section of the Mississippi Territory, particularly the vicinity of Mobile. Americans regained some captured territories and won some minor victories against the British. The Americans followed the advice in Muller (1757) Treatise on Artillery that the trunnions would be at the centreline. By forbidding American exports to all foreign countries, the Embargo Act was designed to force Britain and France to relax their restrictions on American shipping.
