Semigroups, quasigroups, and monoids are structures similar to groups, but more general. I have read the book in 3 modes, novel style reading at night, single pass reading to gain a basic understanding of what's going on, so that I can pretend to be smart at a party, without sounding like a nerd and finally full blown solve-all-problems kind of reading. It basically runs as Definition - Proposition - Proof, and the proofs are not exactly enlightening, leaving many intermediate steps to the reader.
