The church didn't create Scripture; it simply recognized the divine imprint and authority Scripture already possessed because it was and is the very Word of God. Martin Luther (1483–1546) was born in Eisleben, Saxony (now Germany), part of the Holy Roman Empire, to parents Hans and Margaretta. Several thousand French Protestants fled the country during this time, most notably John Calvin, who settled in Geneva. Many Calvinists today interpret this doctrine less rigidly and favor a more Lutheran stress on God’s mercy (“grace” in the Lutheran sense).

The most famous emigration to America was the migration of Puritan separatists from the Anglican Church of England. The new policy bore fruit at last in an Indulgence. Baptists also observe the sacraments, but tend to be more commemorative than sacramentarian. Unlike the Second Great Awakening that began about 1800 and which reached out to the unchurched, the First Great Awakening focused on people who were already church members. The Protestant poor were, on the other hand, refused alms, and at times could not even buy bread with money.

Have these leaders no love of Catholic doctrine?
