This exhibit documents African Americans, freed and escaped slaves, who fought for the British during the Revolutionary War. Their range extended north to the Arkansas River. It seems appropriate that the achievements of African Americans receive attention annually during this month, after being poorly recognized for so long. The richness and texture of the historical narrative came in for greater attention than the attempt to provide causal explanations of historical outcomes.
